英国の教育制度 A Level について

 

GCSEのあと 6th Formでは大学入学資格を得るために必要なGCE-Aレベル (General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level) という国家試験のためのコースワークに入ります。

英国の教育制度 ③ 私立学校

カリキュラムは通常2年間で AレベルはA~Eで評価され、Aレベルでは600UMS(Uniform Mark Scale)満点のうち そしてASレベルでは300UMS(Uniform Mark Scale)満点のうち 80%以上がAグレード、70%以上80%未満がBグレード、60%以上70%未満がCグレード、50%以上60%未満がDグレード、40%以上50%未満がEグレードそして それ以下が失格Uグレード(Unclassified or Ungraded)となります。

この試験の結果と書類審査・面接が大学への入学選考の際に重要な審査基準となるわけです。
生徒は 大学で専攻する、あるいは自分の得意科目学科に関連した2~3科目のコースを選びます。

16歳から専門的な勉強に入り、自分の学力、目的に合わせて(科目を選択し)資格試験を受け、進路を決定していくのです。このAレベルの試験は18歳の5月から6月頃おこなわれ 本人の希望(6校まで希望可能)の大学へ この試験の結果と内申書を送り、大学で選考され、面接を経て大学入学が決定されます。
OxfordやCambridge等はこれ以外に独自の入学試験を持ちます。
この試験は日本の高校教育修了資格にあたるものですが 内容は、日本の大学の専門教育初期課程と同等のことが多いといわれています。
なお、GCSE-Aレベルは、6th Formの生徒だけが受けるものではなく 年令・資格関係無しに誰もが受けられる試験です。
